Dear reader,

I believe that the holistic and integrative method of the Circle of One is an approach to healthcare that is direly needed in our present circumstances. As an allopathic medical doctor currently in training and soon to work in a private practice which combines outpatient and inpatient internal medicine, I cannot help but see the many advantages a patient would have if our current health care systems could better appreciate the role that traditional, holistic medicine has in the healing of thousands in America.

Too often patients are treated as if they are in an auto-repair shop, waiting in line to get a "part" fixed so that they may return to work, school, or their regular routine. What is often missed in this approach is that healing itself is a dynamic and integrative process, as opposed to a static and compartmentalized process in which "disease" is reduced to only the molecular and biochemical levels. To be sure, these aspects of health and illness are important, otherwise I would not have become a physician. But health and well-being are more than just physical corrections of diseased states.

It is with great joy that I recommend and support the work of the Circle of One center for all those who seek help for the physical and psychological "effects" of illness that we as modern-day physicians also treat, but especially in addressing the underlying "causes" of these outer effects. It is my sincere belief that what the Circle of One has to offer is not merely "alternative" or even "complimentary" medicine, but indeed essential and integrative medicine.

And it is for these reasons that it is my honor to collaborate with the Circle of One as a partner in their project, Coming Home: the Art of Traditional Medicine in Partnership with Modern Science, thereby allowing a truly integrative approach to medicine and healing that incorporates not only the traditional, holistic methods, but also the modern medical perspective.

Sincerely,

Hasan Awan, M.D.
